The Urban League of Essex County, like many government, municipal, and nonprofit organizations that serve, that come in close contact with the public, is following the guidelines and protocols posted on the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Because our organization serves many residents on a daily basis, we seek to exercise extreme caution to ensure the public’s safety as well as the safety of our staff members who are working a hybrid schedule in office and remotely.
We are still in the business of servicing Essex County to the best of our ability. For the residents we currently serve, we have made arrangements with them to continue to provide services in whatever form that might take and we are available to everyone.
If you receive or seek to receive services from the Urban League, please contact someone from our staff.
We look forward to continuing our mission to empower communities and change lives!

To date, the Urban League and OC have completed the rehabilitation and new construction of over 30 housing units in the City of Newark and bordering cities in Essex County, New Jersey using public and private funding. For example, the Heights of Fairmount Avenue project consisted of six new multi-family homes which were sold to local community applicants at affordable prices ranging from about $190,000 to $350,000.Â
We are grateful for our supportive and productive partnerships with the City of Newark, New Community Corporation, Local Initiative Supportive Corporation (LISC), the Victoria Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Building Healthier and More Equitable Communities Initiative, Wells Fargo Bank, PSE&G, and more.Â
