FUND DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS
Position/Title: F/T Grants and Development Manager
Location: 508 Central Avenue, Newark, NJ
Hours: Monday to Friday; 9am - 5pm (Hybrid)
Salary: $70,000 to $75,000 annually
Reports To: VP, Fund Development and Communications

BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Grants/ Development Manager with the Urban League of Essex County (ULEC) reports to the VP of Fund Development and Communications. In this role, he/she will maintain a portfolio of private funding sources (individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and foundation support/ grants) as well as public funding/ grants. He/she will be responsible for supporting all aspects of private and public giving and/or grants, including the identification of donor prospects, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and grow a $1.2 M portfolio composed of both private funding (individual donations, corporate sponsorships/ grants, and foundation support) as well as public funding (state and national grants).
- Set and meet annual goals regarding prospects identified and proposals submitted.
- Cultivate and develop meaningful relationships with new and existing corporate and foundation grant makers.
- Draft templates for organization’s comprehensive program and services.
- Draft written materials to be utilized in proposals and the solicitation of funds (i.e. case for support).
- Research and develop a list of prospective donors.
- Manage all aspects of grant writing, including letters of inquiry, budgets, proposals, reports, renewals, special awards, and recognitions.
- Work with program directors to obtain and organize data (e.g. outcomes and goals) necessary for proposal writing and reporting.
- Enter all foundation and corporate contacts, funding, history, and deadlines into Virtuous (CRM). Maintain and update CRM. Run reports/queries at request of leadership.
- Provide support for Board Members, CEO, and VP, Fund Development and Communications regarding foundation and corporate relationships.
- Attend and support special grant-related events when necessary.
- Collaborate with diverse team members, including leadership, program directors, program participants, members of the finance department, Board/committee members, and volunteers.
- Identify challenges and recommend solutions to leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 2 years of experience in career coaching, workforce development, case management, or a similar role.
- Experience working with adult learners, older workers, or underserved populations is preferred.
- BA or BS required, MA preferred.
- Grant writing experience (3-5 years) as well as attention to detail, an understanding of the relevance of programming in a social, racial, and economic justice landscape, and the ability to create compelling narratives.
- Knowledge of and adherence to policies as well as procedures of foundations, corporations, and government agencies relating to processes regarding proposal submissions.
- Strong prospecting skills, familiarity with or willingness to learn Instrumentl to research prospects.
- Skilled in following up and tracking information for a successful finish.
- Skilled at building lasting relationships with potential foundation and corporate officers as well as volunteers.
- Can proactively work with program directors to secure information needed for proposals.
- Thought partner who understands creative processes and is willing to implement feedback from leadership.
- Experience in creating reports for Board of Directors.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work well with others outside of the organization.
- Familiarity with Virtuous (CRM) preferred, but not required.
- Passion for social justice and racial equality.
